Don’t Miss The Blessing!

My Old Testament reading started out in Deuteronomy this morning. Later, I read the following devotional (from Streams in the Desert) which is based on one of the verses I had read earlier! I think the Lord must be wanting to remind me of something. No matter what difficulties we may face now, there are blessings ahead if we will just remain faithful to the Lord!

“…to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the Lord.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭1‬:‭36‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Every hard duty that lies in your path, that you would rather not do, that it will cost you pain and struggle or sore effort to do, has a blessing in it. Not to do it, at whatever cost, is to miss the blessing.

Every hard piece of road on which you see the Master’s shoe-prints and along which He bids you follow Him, surely leads to blessing, which you cannot get if you cannot go over the steep, thorny path.

Every point of battle to which you come, where you must draw your sword and fight the enemy, has a possible victory which will prove a rich blessing to your life. Every heavy load that you are called to lift hides in itself some strange secret of strength.”

I have been enjoyinf your lovely website this morning. J.R. Miller is one of my favorite writers concerning trials and affliction. Along with ‘Streams in the Desert’ and ‘Morning & Evening’, Mr. Miller’s writings have been a great encouragement to me during times of deep sorrow. Thank you for sharing this.

We’re so thankful to hear that you were encouraged – praise the Lord! We became acquainted with Mr. Miller’s writings through devotional books such as “Streams in the Desert”, “Springs in the Valley”, and other books of compiled devotions. He is a favorite of ours as well! My daughters enjoy his “Come Ye Apart” and “In Green Pastures”.
