Have You Had Your Grits Today?

When I moved to NC over 40 years ago, I was introduced to some southern delicacy terms – terms such as livermush and grits. Being a WV gal, I had never heard of much less tasted either. To this day, I still have not eaten livermush and have only tried grits when I found it on my tray in the hospital.

HOWEVER…

As time goes on, I am becoming increasingly convinced that we Christian ladies need to be eating a big ol bowl of grits every single morning. That’s right folks – this WV gal has had a change of heart…kinda. 😉

The definition for grit is:

“courage and resolve; strength of character.”

Our world desperately needs…

G – Godly women with holy boldness!

“…but the RIGHTEOUS are BOLD as a lion.”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭28:1‬ ‭KJV

R – resilient women who, like Abigail, will NOT allow their difficult circumstances to dictate their outlook.

Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings…” I Samuel 25:3

I – importunate women who, like Hannah, will NOT stop praying until the answer comes.

“So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD. And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore… Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.” I Samuel 1:9,10,17

T – tenacious women who, like Esther, will NOT allow the adversary to destroy their families without a fight.

“Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.” Esther 4:15,16

S – stedfast women who, like Ruth, will NOT be persuaded to turn back to this world.

“And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.” Ruth 1:16-18

What about it, ladies? Have you had your bowl of G.R.I.T.S. today? 🥣

“Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.” Proverbs 31:25
