When Fear Stops You Dead In Your Tracks

Recently, when Caleb and family were here, we all traveled up to WV for the weekend. It was during our time in WV that our 2-year-old GRANDdaughter met someone.

Now, most of the time, Annaleigh is a pretty outgoing little girl (like her daddy). She loves to wave at strangers and even yell “hey” to them. She may be a little shy at first but it doesn’t take her too long to warm up to a new person in her life. But, this “someone” that she met that night was a totally different story. Annaleigh met her shadow – and it was NOT a pleasant experience!

We were all pretty confused at the beginning – unsure of whether she had stubbed her toe or something like that. When we finally realized what was taking place, I did what any good Nana would do. I began frantically looking for my phone while hollering, “video it…video it!”

While watching the few video clips that I took that night, I realized I had captured a PERFECT example of a simple yet profound Biblical truth!

There will be times that circumstances will literally grip us with fear and even, as in Annaleigh’s case, stop us dead in our tracks. But, God’s Word tells us repeatedly that we should not fear but rather TRUST God! HOW do we do that when fearful situations threaten us?

In the first video, Annaleigh is terrified as her dark shadow looms in front of her.

But, in the second video, she is walking without fear even though her shadow is still there.

The difference?

In the first video, she is turned away from the light. In the second video, she is turned toward the light.

My thought for today:

When fear stops you dead in your tracks, TURN AROUND! Look to JESUS, the Light of the World! Keep your eyes on HIM! Keep trusting HIM!

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10 KJV
