“I’d Rather Cry Than Be Cold”

The title of this brief post is a statement said to me a few weeks ago and the person who said it was referring to the condition of their heart.

Last week, the girls and I were talking about Joseph (Genesis 37, 39-50) and how he wept when seeing his brothers.

“And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes.” Genesis 42:24

“And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there” Genesis 43:30

“And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard.” Genesis 45:2

In spite of what his brothers had done to him (as well as all the other mistreatment he had endured) he had remained tender-hearted. He did not allow the injustices to cause him to become bitter and therefore take away his tears. Because of this, Joseph was able to see God’s hand in everything He had allowed him to experience.

We can learn so much from the life of Joseph – one of my favorite Bible characters! This little thought from his life is a reminder to cling to Jesus no matter what may come our way! Let’s not lose our tears – stay tender and see what God is doing!
