Spare Bedroom Makeover!

Like many people, our time spent in quarantine involved a variety of projects. In the beginning, we enjoyed trying out new recipes and came across several “keepers” in the process! (We plan to post our pizza dough recipe real soon!) Eventually, we went from cooking/baking to a couple of room makeovers. The first one we tackled was the hall bathroom. I may share pictures of it in a future post but I absolutely love how it turned out!

The next room to get a much-needed facelift was the spare bedroom. As I mentioned in a previous post, Anna stuck right with me while Bethany took over the majority of indoor and outdoor duties. I definitely could not have done it without them!

First of all, here is a “before picture” – after taking signs, pictures, etc. off the walls:

Our makeover first involved painting the ceiling and walls. I chose white and really love the fresh, clean look. Here’s my partner in crime:

Next was ripping up the carpet and padding as well as removing staples, etc in preparation for the new flooring. I did most of this while Anna chalk-painted the two bookshelves.

After getting the old flooring up, Anna helped me put down the new flooring. I chose adhesive vinyl tiles because, although I had never done it before, they seemed fairly easy to install. It was at this point of the makeover that I realized how young I was NOT. For the next few days, I ached all over. I mean ALL OVER. I do not ever remember being that sore! Somebody get the heating pad…PLEASE.

Once we finished the flooring, our next project was finishing the furniture. Anna had already painted the bookshelves so that just left the bed frame as well as two crates that I stacked on their sides and put between the chair and keyboard. I faced them in opposite directions in order to have an opening on each side – one side for devotional books and the other side for music.

Next came the fun part – decorating!! We found a few 75% off signs at Hobby Lobby and the girls printed and framed pictures of their instruments. They also chose pictures of a few individuals who have been an inspiration to them in their music. With these pictures, we put together a collage to print and frame.

In addition to music, Anna also enjoys crafting so she had fun organizing all of her craft supplies on the “new” bookshelves. She used mason jars and tin buckets she already had as well as a couple of 75% off containers from, you guessed it…Hobby Lobby. 🙂

Here is the “almost finished” product. There are still a couple things I need to tend to but all in all, we are very pleased with how it turned out!

I think they’re enjoying the new music/craft room. All of the work (along with the aches and pains) was worth it! 🙂
