Rocking Horse Makeover!

From small projects to two complete room makeovers, the last few months have found Anna and I doing a good bit of painting. ( A BIG thanks right here to Bethany for taking over most of the other indoor and outdoor duties!)

For this week’s project, I went solo as I gave this little horse a much-needed makeover. I spotted this treasure at a thrift store several years ago and grabbed it – the GRANDbabies sure have enjoyed him! Somewhere along the trail, his tail broke off and his eyes disappeared so a new look was definitely in order.

Waverly brand (sold at Walmart) is the only chalk paint I’ve ever used and, for this project, I chose the color “mineral” because I already had it here at home. Since it’s pretty thick, I usually pour some in a cup and add a little bit of water. This makes the paint go further too!

I put on two coats of paint and then sanded the edges a little bit for a distressed look before applying two coats of Minwax polycrylic (with a third coat on the seat and “stirrups”).

I did a little research on ideas for the eyes and tail before finally deciding on 1-inch decorative tacks and jumbo yarn – both available at Hobby Lobby.

I love how the tail turned out!

Ready to ride the trail with the next lil cowboy or cowgirl that comes around these parts!
