Guarding From Sin,  Quotes

Christian Liberty

The paragraph below was written by our son-in-law a few months back, concerning some thoughts from Romans 6. I came across it today and as I read it, I was reminded of a quote that goes something like – Boundaries are not bondage but rather a bulwark from the bondage of sin.

As I was preaching Romans 6 this morning, I was once again reminded that as a child of God, I am dead to sin! Not just the penalty of sin, but sin itself! There seems to be a trend among present day Christians ( many who are Independent Baptist) that says “I have liberty to sin”. Paul rebukes this line of thought in vs. 2 by saying “God forbid”. As a child of God, I don’t have the liberty to indulge in sin but liberty from sin. I am dead to sin and although there may be temptation, sin has no hold on me. A person would be a fool to criticize standards and convictions by calling them “bondage” when all they are doing is protecting you from committing the sin that you have been freed from. Don’t get me wrong – we are not saved by works; we are saved by grace and when we fall to sin there is still grace. The point I am making is, living apart from a sinful worldly lifestyle is not bondage, but liberty that only God can give to those who are saved. ~ Chris Rogers

And I say, “Amen!”

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” Romans 6:1,2
