Tamed

“And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.” Mark 5:2-5

While I was reading the above passage recently, the phrase “neither could any man tame him” really jumped out at me. My first thoughts were, “GOD CAN”!!  And, we read later in the chapter where God indeed did tame this man. “And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.” Mark 5:15

The effects of Jesus taming this man were:

1. He had a desire to be with Jesus; 2. He had a desire to be clothed; 3. He was in his right mind.

I don’t know what all was included in the fact that he was now in his right mind, but he obviously had new desires.

The effects that these changes had on others were that of FEAR…in AWE of God’s mighty power to change a life! The changes were so drastic that only GOD HIMSELF could have done it!

When God saved us, did He tame us? The changes may not have been as dramatic as this man,  but salvation does produce new desires in an individual.

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.” Ephesians 2:1-3
