PREPARE – SEEK – DO – TEACH

“For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.”  Ezra 7:10

In this one verse, there is a good pattern for us whether our role is “mother to child”, “Sunday School teacher to student”,  “older woman to younger woman”, “older sibling to younger sibling”, “nana to grandchild”, etc.

1. PREPARE – our hearts by humbly confessing to God and then asking Him for a teachable spirit. “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me…” Psalm 25:5

2. SEEK – truths from God’s Word as we pray, “Open thou mine eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” Psalm 119:18

3. DO – what the Holy Spirit teaches us from the Word. “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only…” James 1:22

4. TEACH – these new truths to those whom God has entrusted to us. “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart; And thou shalt teach them diligently…” Deuteronomy 6:6,7

Reading this verse in Ezra is a good reminder not to skip any of the above steps for they are vital for our own spiritual growth as well as the growth of those who are learning from us!
