The Wise Man

The Bible says, “Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.” Proverbs 14:33  In reading this verse, we can see the characteristics of both a wise person and a fool. The fool is known as one that spouts off everything he knows. He can’t stay quiet; he has to be yakking. We see this in Proverbs 12:23b, “…but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.” Proverbs 13:16b, “…but a fool layeth open his folly.” Proverbs 15:2b, “…but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.” Proverbs 29:11a, “A fool uttereth all his mind:…” Ecclesiastes 5:3b, “…and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words.” and many other verses!

In a wise person, however, we see that wisdom rests in his heart. They are not always blurting out everything they know for they have learned that in order to learn, sometimes it’s best to just be quiet and listen. We see this in Proverbs 1:5a, “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning…”, Proverbs 10:8a, “The wise in heart will receive commandments…”, Proverbs 10:14a, “Wise men lay up knowledge…” Proverbs 10:19b, “…but he that refraineth his lips is wise.” and many other verses!

When I read verses with the words – wise, wisdom, knowledgeetc. I think of my dad. You see, my dad is a perfect example of the word WISE. I have witnessed numerous times where people have come to him for advice and each time, I am reminded of just how blessed I am to have him as my father! I am so thankful for the wonderful example he has been for us kids. I love you very much, Daddy, and I hope you have a great Father’s Day!!!
