Humility,  Pride

Just Dust

“…I exalted thee out of the dust…”  I Kings 16:2

The above phrase really stood out to me this morning…it is the Lord speaking against Baasha. Apparently, King Baasha did not consider where he came from and just Who was responsible for his success. Because of his evil reign, he had caused the people to turn from God:

“…thou hast walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hast made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins” I Kings 16:2

How very sad that the king’s failure to acknowledge God for his success had caused others to sin and would also lead to the destruction of his own family:

“Behold, I will take away the posterity of Baasha, and the posterity of his house…”  I Kings 16:3

No matter how successful God may allow us to become, we should always remember Who is responsible for our success. No matter what prosperity we may enjoy, we should always remember what we really are – JUST DUST.

“…for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”  Genesis 3:19
