This past Sunday, our Sunday School lesson was an overview of the book of Ruth. Although I am sure we could name other women of the Bible who would fall in this category, Ruth is actually the only one specifically called a virtuous woman.<\/p>\n

(Boaz speaking) “…all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.” Ruth 3:11<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Included in our lesson was a list of Ruth’s character traits compared to the traits of the Virtuous Woman we read of in Proverbs 31. This would be a good list for all women – married and unmarried – to use as a guideline in their own lives. To the unmarried, may I encourage you to strive to model your life after these traits while trusting the Lord to allow “your Boaz” to notice you as the virtuous woman for whom he has been praying?<\/p>\n

8 Character Traits of Ruth as a Virtuous Woman<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Devoted to her family (Ruth 1:15-18; Proverbs 31:10-12, 23)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Delighting in her work (Ruth 2:2; Proverbs 31:13)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Diligent in her labor (Ruth 2:7, 17, 23; Proverbs 31:14-18, 19-21, 24, 27)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Dedicated to Godly speech (Ruth 2:10, 13; Proverbs 31:26)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. Dependent on the Lord (Ruth 2:12 Proverbs 31:25, 30)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  6. Dressed with care (Ruth 3:3 Proverbs 31:22, 25)<\/strong><\/li>\n
