We read Ornan’s response above. A portion of Matthew Henry’s comments on Ornan’s response is as follows: “Ornan generously offered it to him gratis, not only in complaisance to the king, but because he had himself seen the angel (1Ch 21:20), which so terrified him that he and his four sons hid themselves, as unable to bear the brightness of his glory and afraid of his drawn sword. Under these apprehensions he was willing to do anything towards making the atonement. Those that are duly sensible of the terrors of the Lord will do all they can, in their places, to promote religion, and encourage all the methods of reconciliation for the turning away of God’s wrath.” ~\u00a0Matthew Henry\u00a0 My thought this morning – Can I say, “I give it all”? As Christians, I truly believe a genuine fear of the Lord will bring us to that point of complete surrender. ~~~~~~~~~~~ You have longed for sweet peace, And for faith to increase, And have earnestly, fervently prayed; But you cannot have rest, Or be perfectly blest, Until all on the altar is laid. Is your all on the altar of sacrifice laid? Your heart does the Spirit control? You can only be blest, And have peace and sweet rest, As you yield Him your body and soul. Would you walk with the Lord, In the light of His word, And have peace and contentment alway? You must do His sweet will, To be free from all ill, On the altar your all you must lay. Oh, we never can know What the Lord will bestow Of the blessings for which we have prayed, Till our body and soul He doth fully control, And our all on the altar is laid. Who can tell all the love He will send from above, And how happy our hearts will be made; Of the fellowship sweet We shall share at His feet, When our all on the altar is laid. (Elisha A.
