Friday morning, I took Mom out for her weekly errands. As we walked out of K Mart, I couldn&#8217;t help but get tickled at our conversation that went something like this:<\/p>\n<p>MOM &#8211; &#8220;Oh, look at the sky&#8230;it&#8217;s just beautiful!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>ME &#8211; &#8220;Uh huh&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>MOM &#8211; &#8220;Now, what song does that remind you of?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>ME &#8211; (drawing a complete blank) &#8220;Ummmmm&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The only song that came to my mind right off was &#8220;Beyond the Sunset&#8221; but since it was morning, I doubted that was the song she had in mind.<\/p>\n<p>MOM &#8211; &#8220;America the Beautiful!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>ME &#8211; (continued blank look)<\/p>\n<p>MOM &#8211; &#8220;Oh beautiful for spacious skies&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>ME &#8211; &#8220;Ohhhhhhhhh&#8230;.&#8221; (light now coming on)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At this point, I&#8217;m chuckling inside. I immediately thought of the different times I have shared songs on this blog that have come to my mind due to this or that. Right there in the K Mart parking lot it dawned on me &#8211; I get that from my mom!\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You know&#8230;as moms, our children are going to naturally pick up some of our character traits. They will have a strong tendency to pick up some of our habits &#8211; good and bad. And, just as I did not realize until this past weekend that little trait I had picked up from my mom, our children will pick up little sayings, mannerisms, facial expressions, attitudes, etc from us &#8211; whether we want them to or not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I have talked to my girls about this. I have told them that, as they get older, there will be characteristics about them that are reflective of their parents&#8230;and even grandparents. These conversations have a somber tone because, unfortunately, I know these characteristics will be both positive and negative. As I continue to strive to\u00a0grow in the Lord, I&#8217;ve encouraged\u00a0my girls\u00a0to embrace any personality traits they may &#8220;inherit&#8221;&#8230;any habits that would be pleasing to\u00a0God&#8230;while asking the Lord to help them overcome any qualities that are not Christ-like. I am thankful that, if their\u00a0heart&#8217;s desire is to be\u00a0Godly young ladies, HE will help them\u00a0to be overcomers!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>&#8220;Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.&#8221; I John 4:4\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We spent\u00a0this past\u00a0weekend up in WV in order to take care of some things as well as celebrate my mom&#8217;s 93rd birthday.
