“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” Psalm 119:18<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Reading the above verse a bit ago reminded me of the hymn written by Clara H. Scott and published in 1895. Below are the first three verses:<\/p>\n

Open my eyes, that I may see
\nGlimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
\nPlace in my hands the wonderful key
\nThat shall unclasp and set me free.<\/p>\n

Silently now I wait for Thee,<\/strong>
\n Ready my God, Thy will to see,<\/strong>
\n Open my eyes, illumine me,<\/strong>
\n Spirit divine!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Open my ears, that I may hear
\nVoices of truth Thou sendest clear;
\nAnd while the wave notes fall on my ear,
\nEverything false will disappear.<\/p>\n

Silently now I wait for Thee,<\/strong>
\n Ready my God, Thy will to see,<\/strong>
\n Open my eyes, illumine me,<\/strong>
\n Spirit divine!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Open my mind, that I may read
\nMore of Thy love in word and deed;
\nWhat shall I fear while yet Thou dost lead?
\nOnly for light from Thee I plead.<\/p>\n

In this same chapter of Psalms, just a few verses later we read the purpose for understanding God’s Word is not just for our own personal benefit but also to share with others…<\/p>\n

“Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works.” Psalm 119:27<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It seems the hymn writer had this in mind as she wrote the final verse:<\/p>\n

Open my mouth, and let me bear,
\nGladly the warm truth everywhere;
\nOpen my heart and let me prepare
\nLove with Thy children thus to share.<\/p>\n

Just a\u00a0couple questions\u00a0this morning –\u00a0is our desire for understanding God’s Word as strong as when we were first saved? Do we long for “fresh truths”?\u00a0 Secondly, what are we doing with what the Lord gives us? Remember, if we are not sharing His Truth, we are most likely souring as a full sponge left to sit. As we read God’s Word each day, let’s be sensitive to opportunities in which we can share His Truth with others!<\/p>\n
