{"id":3745,"date":"2015-10-22T08:45:38","date_gmt":"2015-10-22T12:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.inthineheart.com\/staging\/8143\/?p=3745"},"modified":"2015-10-22T08:45:38","modified_gmt":"2015-10-22T12:45:38","slug":"self-righteousness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.inthineheart.com\/staging\/8143\/2015\/10\/22\/self-righteousness\/","title":{"rendered":"Self &#8211; Righteousness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>&#8220;And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">they were righteous, and despised others<\/span>: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.&#8221;\u00a0 Luke 18:9-14<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beside the above verses, I have written the following definition:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Self-Righteousness<\/span> <\/strong>&#8211; &#8220;tolerance of our sins and intolerance of another&#8217;s sins&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">How easy it is for us to become\u00a0blind to our own faults while looking with disdain at the faults of others! After reading this passage the other day, I came across the following quote:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;The self-righteous never apologize&#8221; ~ Leonard Ravenhill<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Maybe one good way to keep check on ourselves in this area of self-righteousness would be to ask ourselves, &#8220;When is the last time I have apologized for anything?&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;When is the last time I have told someone I was sorry?&#8221;\u00a0 There is no one that is right ALL of the time. We all make mistakes. We all mess up.\u00a0When we do,\u00a0are we\u00a0humble enough to admit it?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>&#8220;Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
