{"id":234,"date":"2014-04-03T13:10:29","date_gmt":"2014-04-03T17:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.inthineheart.com\/staging\/8143\/?p=234"},"modified":"2021-07-08T12:49:51","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T16:49:51","slug":"salty-christians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.inthineheart.com\/staging\/8143\/2014\/04\/03\/salty-christians\/","title":{"rendered":"Salty Christians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&#8220;When you speak your piece you lose your peace.&#8221; &#8211; unknown<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When I read the above quote the other day, it reminded me of the following thought: As Christians, the Bible says we are the salt of the earth \u2013<b> <\/b><strong><i>\u201cYe are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?&#8230;\u201d&nbsp; Matthew 5:13&nbsp;<\/i><\/strong> We can find one characteristic of Salty Christians in <em><strong>Colossians 4:6<\/strong><\/em><i> <\/i><b><i>\u2013 <\/i><\/b><strong><i>\u201cLet your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/i><\/strong>Salty Christians are gracious-speaking Christians. Notice, the last part of this verse says that a gracious-speaking Christian &#8211; a Salty Christian &#8211; will know how to answer every man. No, that verse doesn\u2019t limit our gracious responses to those who have just spoken kindly to us. Salty Christians speak graciously to <strong>EVERY<\/strong> man. As a reminder, I have written beside this verse, \u201cthere is never a reason to tell someone off\u201c. &nbsp;The \u201cshort fuse\u201d we may have had before salvation should be getting longer and longer the more we grow as a &nbsp;Christian. This morning, the Lord seemed to further emphasize this thought as Bethany shared in our Bible time what she had&nbsp;just read, <strong><i>\u201cAnd all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth\u2026\u201d&nbsp;<\/i><\/strong><em><strong>Luke 4:22<\/strong><\/em> A characteristic of true Christ-likeness will be displayed by gracious speaking.<b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although James 3 speaks of the extreme difficulty of governing our tongue, we are still commanded in II Peter 3:18 to \u201cgrow in grace\u201d, and this continual growing process would certainly include our speech.
