It came to my mind this morning while reading in Ruth &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>&#8220;And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>And she said, Behold, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">thy sister in law is gone back<\/span> unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee<\/span>: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:&#8221;\u00a0 Ruth 1:14-16<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although one of Naomi&#8217;s daughters-in-law chose to return to her people and thus, her gods, Ruth had her mind made up and would not be persuaded otherwise. The Bible describes her as being <strong>&#8220;stedfastly minded&#8221;<\/strong> (vs. 18) &#8211; she would <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NOT<\/span> return to her people and their worshipping of false gods. She would continue serving the one and true God of Naomi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I wonder,\u00a0for those of us who profess to be saved, could we be persuaded to turn back to our old life? If so, tell me&#8230;other than\u00a0a life of temporal pleasure mixed in with emptiness and heartache, to what or whom\u00a0would\u00a0we be turning? I am reminded of Jesus&#8217; question to the 12 disciples as many other disciples turned back from following Christ &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>&#8220;From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Then said Jesus unto the twelve, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Will ye also go away<\/span>? John 6:66,67<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I like Peter&#8217;s answer!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>Then Simon Peter answered him, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lord, to whom shall we go<\/span>? thou hast the words of eternal life.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.&#8221; John 6:68,69\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Just as Peter&#8217;s response reminds us there is <strong>NOTHING<\/strong> to go back to, Jesus&#8217; question also reminds us that He is not going to<strong> MAKE<\/strong> us follow Him.
